CHICAGO, Ill. (January 27, 2023) – Altius Sports Partners (ASP), the leading advisor to elite collegiate athletics programs, has hired veteran legal and business strategist Rob Hostetter as General Counsel, effective January 23, 2023. He will oversee all legal matters and assist in managing external relationships, negotiating agreements, and applying his skill set to developing strategies for ASP’s rapid growth in the NIL space and beyond.
Rob joins ASP from Fiserv where he served as an in-house attorney for the Fortune 500 global fintech and payments company. With two decades of leadership on complex projects and transactional and litigation matters in-house and as outside counsel, Hostetter adds top-tier legal prowess to ASP on affairs that will impact business and client services. His acumen will serve to enhance the company’s best-in-class offerings which support more than 30 school partners and multiple strategic alliances.
Having spent several years representing clients in professional and collegiate sports, he adds to ASP’s broad knowledge of the NIL regulatory and compliance landscape. Moreover, in his new role, Hostetter will advise ASP’s on-campus NIL General Managers on various legal issues related to the facilitation of athlete marketing deals.
“Altius Sports is the foremost innovator and leader in the college NIL space, and I’m excited to join at such a pivotal time for the company. I look forward to collaborating with our talented team on matters that further position our business and partners for transformative growth and opportunity,” said Hostetter.
“Rob has been nothing short of remarkable during his distinguished career. His extensive legal and business knowledge at the highest levels, including in college sports, make a tremendous addition to our team as we continue to grow and serve our partners with best-in-class counsel and services.” said Casey Schwab, ASP Founding Partner & CEO.
A highly respected corporate counsel, Hostetter’s proficiencies include, among others, IP licensing, technology contracting, marketing counsel, sponsorship consulting, digital media, compliance, and contract negotiation. He spent the last six years as Managing Counsel/Senior Counsel at Fiserv responsible for negotiating client agreements and managing legal challenges for its Biller Solutions business. His background includes serving as Counsel for sports media law firm Appel & Long LLP, where he negotiated multimedia and other IP rights agreements for major college sports properties. Prior, Hostetter served as General Counsel and Vice-President of Legal and Business Affairs at sports marketing consulting firm Helios Partners, which focused on host bidding strategy and sponsorship consulting related to the Olympics and FIFA World Cup.
In three short years, ASP has gone from launching with two school partners (LSU and Texas) to currently supporting 34 universities, including almost half of the Power Five. Last year ASP launched a first-of-its-kind on-campus, in-house NIL GM Program with top programs including Arizona State, Cincinnati, LSU, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, and USC, and scaled its blue-chip NIL advisory and education services through the launch of ASP Academy with four inaugural school partners: Nevada, North Alabama, Oakland, and Tulane.
